May Carro Cabaleiro
“Every day has a different color.”
For May Carro Cabaleiro, light, its reflection, and radiance play an elemental role in her artworks. To allow light rays to naturally penetrate and integrate into the artwork, making it shine in a special way, it is essential for the support material to appear invisible. Therefore, May Carro Cabaleiro developed her own paper and a unique support plate made of a transparent, synthetic material, which she precisely adapts to her works.
May Carro Cabaleiro’s works appear in monochrome color palettes, which she varies in phases across her large and small-format pieces. With broad brushstrokes, the artist applies the finely tuned, highly pigmented colors, some of which consist of high-quality metals like copper, in varying layers. In the process of painting, May Carro Cabaleiro is guided almost exclusively by herself, falling into a meditative state that allows her to paint from an inner calm and strength.
